HUON VALLEY THEATRE INC.

Huon Valley Theatre Inc. is an amateur theatre company formed in 1988.

It is based at the Huonville Town Hall and has progressively improved the theatre infrastructure of the hall, which is now the most suited for theatrical productions in the Huon Valley. Over the years it has established a reputation for its professionalism and quality productions.

The Company is self-supporting, relying on community support of its activities for funding and talent. HVT encourages community involvement and uses local talent predominantly in its productions. Though its main focus is on theatrical productions, HVT also involves itself in many other performance-related activities, such as variety nights, concerts, talent quests, and its Festival of Carols. It has tackled major and popular productions such as The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, The Wizard of Oz and Oliver!, as well as more challenging dramas, comedies, and of, course, pantomimes. Huon Valley Theatre has a keen interest in providing opportunities for the talented youngsters in the Valley, having staged many shows cast with and presented to the Valley's youth. Its monthly Youth Drama Club involves kids, helping them to develop all aspects of stagecraft.

THE HUONVILLE TOWN HALL

Although Huon Valley Theatre has staged productions at a variety of venues (e.g. Playhouse, Peacock), its base since it formed in 1988 is the Huonville Town Hall, situated towards the rear of the Huon Valley Council building at 40 Main Street Huonville. It is centrally located in Huonville, with plenty of parking in the near vicinity. Wheelchair access is available. It is a cosy venue that can comfortably seat 160. Seating can be configured in a variety of ways and to suit different expected audience numbers. Huon Valley Theatre owns the performing infrastructure, i.e. lighting, sound and projector, but these are available at no charge and on request to other hall users.
